Accuracy, Corrections & Disclaimer
Canada Observatory is an educational project. We make every effort to present data accurately: figures come from authoritative primary sources, every chart cites its source, and most series update automatically as agencies publish. Even so, mistakes are possible: in our processing, in our prose, or in the source data itself. The site is offered in good faith and without warranty.
What this site is, and is not
- It is a free educational reference: cleaned, charted, and contextualized public data about Canada.
- It is not professional advice. Nothing here is financial, investment, legal, medical, or tax advice, and nothing here is a statement about any person’s or community’s legal rights or entitlements. For decisions that matter, consult the original sources and qualified professionals.
- It is not official. Canada Observatory is independent. It is not affiliated with, produced by, or endorsed by Statistics Canada or any other data provider, government, or agency whose data it uses. Where we adapt data (rebasing an index, combining series, computing per-capita figures), the transformation is ours, and any error it introduces is ours, not the source’s.
Verify against the source
Every chart cites where its numbers come from, and the Data Sources page lists each provider and its licence. If a figure will bear weight in your work, check it against the original source: our cleaned data can differ from a source’s current publication through timing (agencies revise), rounding, or transformation, and each chart notes the date of its most recent data.
Corrections
If you spot something that looks wrong, please say so, by email at hello@canadaobservatory.ca, through the project’s social channels, or through GitHub issues. We review every report and correct confirmed mistakes. A reference site earns trust by being correctable.
