What is planned and why some topics aren’t here

Canada Observatory grows deliberately and carefully. A topic can only be added when it is supported by an authoritative, refreshable data source. This page lists what is planned and what is waiting, so you know if a missing topic is queued rather than overlooked.

Planned

• A French version of the site: this is a serious aspiration and goal, but a timeline is not set.
• Trade and the Canada–US economic relationship: a dedicated page. Core trade charts already live on Economy & Jobs.
• K-12 student outcomes (PISA): Canada’s reading, math, and science results against peers, planned around the next international release. The adult half is already live on Education.
• French at home over the long run: the language’s share nationally and in Quebec, built from historical censuses.
• Housing completions: alongside the existing housing-starts series, to show finished supply.
• Childcare fees by city: from Statistics Canada’s fee surveys.
• Elections and democratic participation: more detail beyond the existing voter-turnout charts.
• Precipitation and extreme heat: extending the climate pages beyond temperature.
• Homelessness: some point-in-time counts exist but the work stalled because it was difficult to ensure it would be presented carefully and comparably.

Waiting on data or engagement

• Provincial election turnout: no single authoritative national source publishes it consistently.
• Peer comparisons for incarceration: no official international series meets the site’s sourcing rules, so any future page would be Canada-only.
