The language each household speaks most often at home mapped by census tract (2021). Use the dropdown to switch language, and zoom and pan to your area. The map traces Canada’s linguistic geography at street level: e.g., the French-speaking core of Québec and the bilingual belt through Montréal, Gatineau and Acadie; Punjabi in Surrey and Brampton; Mandarin and Cantonese across Richmond and Markham; Arabic in Montréal’s north end and Ottawa.

Shares are single responses as a percentage of the tract’s population. People who report two or more home languages, plus the long tail of languages not listed here, appear as Other & multiple responses, so the listed groups don’t sum to exactly 100%. Census tracts exist only in larger urban areas, so rural Canada is left blank.
