Who We Are

Who is behind Canada Observatory

Canada Observatory is an independent project with no commercial sponsor, political affiliation, or advocacy agenda (with one deliberate exception).

Who we are

Dan Weaver, PhD, is an atmospheric physicist and associate professor, teaching stream, at the University of Toronto Scarborough. Before pursuing his academic career, he earned a degree in education, with teaching specializations in physics and politics. His interests in civic education, science, and evidence-informed policymaking led him to serve for more than 12 years on the board of Evidence for Democracy (E4D), a non-partisan organization that promotes the use of evidence in Canadian public policy. Following his time with E4D, he created Canada Observatory to support informed, data-driven conversations about the social, environmental, and economic questions facing Canada.

Get in touch

The best way to reach us is by email at hello@canadaobservatory.ca, through the project’s social media channels, or through GitHub issues — corrections, broken links, data questions, and suggestions for new indicators are all welcome. If you spot a number that looks wrong, please say so: a reference site earns trust by being correctable. See Accuracy, Corrections & Disclaimer for how we handle both.
